Anti-Communist Movement

Guanabacoa, Havana — August 2026. The Anti-Communist Movement and Defenders of Liberty (MADL) is giving visibility to the case of Lismani Acosta Gómez, a Cuban young man of just 19 years of age, whose situation was reported to us by his partner, Leonides Montano.

The facts denounced

According to the information received, Lismani was arrested on July 6 after taking part in a peaceful protest on Vía Blanca, Guanabacoa. Since then he faces a charge of “public disorder” under case file 42437/26.

  • He spent 17 days at Police Unit No. 14 in Guanabacoa.
  • Bail was initially reported to be set at 100,000 pesos, an amount his partner could not afford.
  • There is concern over a possible transfer to a prison in Güines, Mayabeque.

An element that makes this case even more urgent

According to the testimony received, Lismani lives with HIV and requires continuity of medical care and treatment. Any interruption of his medication, or exposure to inadequate prison conditions, may pose a serious risk to his health.

What MADL demands

We demand that the Cuban authorities immediately guarantee his physical integrity, uninterrupted access to his treatment, adequate medical care, and respect for his fundamental rights. We further demand that the circumstances of his detention be clarified and that the peaceful exercise of protest and freedom of expression not be criminalized.

📢 We call on human-rights organizations, activists, journalists, and the international community to pay attention to Lismani’s case.

Behind case file 42437/26 there is not simply a number. There is a 19-year-old. There is a worried family. There is health that must be protected. And there are rights that must be respected.

✊ Freedom for Lismani Acosta Gómez.
