Five years after July 11 (11J), a member of the Movement shares his testimony about what that date meant and about the struggle that continues.
“July 11 is an important date for all Cubans. For the time it lasted, we felt free; it proved the yearning for freedom that our people have. The objective was not achieved, but it stands as evidence that Cubans want freedom. We want no more dictatorship โ we are tired of this.”
The testimony is also a call not to forget those who lit the spark: “We must underline the political prisoners, who truly deserve to be mentioned, because they were the ones who lit the spark that makes Cubans today think of freedom โ of building a free, democratic Cuba with freedom of expression and thought.”
And it closes with hope: “Homeland, Life and Freedom. Freedom for the political prisoners, who I know will be free soon.”
